In 2012 Finnish Corporation YIT turns 100. The company grew with its clients while developing its services to answer the demands of the changing environment. Thousands of YIT employees contributed to make YIT a prosperous service company. Our goal is to continue this trend in future and lead in the market of creation and maintenance of good living environment for people.
From local Finnish constructor to the Global Corporation
YIT history includes many important milestones. The company was founded in 1912 when a Swedish company Ab Allmänna Ingeniörsbyrån opened its office in the Grand Duchy of Finland. At the time it was also aiming to go on the Russian market. In 1920 the company established a successor company to the Helsinki office called Yleinen Insinööritoimisto Oy.
YIT corporation in Finland and its former entities played important role in the Finnish society life. In various times of their development history the companies within corporation provided a wide spectrum of services: from harvest land preparation and forest melioration to construction of hydraulic stations, factories, atomic power stations and residential housing.
The companies' interests went beyond Finnish borders. YIT corporation was a pioneer to export Finnish construction services. The first Russian project (in the then USSR) was to build a road near Murmansk and it was finished over 50 years ago in 1961. Apart from the Soviet Union YIT Corporation provided construction services in Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Abu-Dhabi, Tanzania, Kenya.
In the first decade of XXI YIT became a global corporation in housing construction and construction services. The company began to play a greater role on the Russian market. Today YIT corporation has Russian regional offices in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Moscow district, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don and Kazan. Now YIT corporation activity spans over 14 countries of the Northern and Central Europe, in Russia and Baltics.
Celebration agenda
A set of events has been scheduled providing insight on the history and current activity of YIT Corporation. Among those a website will be lunched called YIT: History and Today. It will speak of the history and the various services provided today by the Corporation. In February a special book will be issued telling about YIT today as a corporation and about the companies which preceded. A documentary on the YIT history is also shot. YIT will hold a series of festive events during the whole year to celebrate the date and to show the company's appreciation to its clients and personnel. A special company logo was created for this anniversary to speak of its century old expertise and its drive for development.
